Typically when we think of giving to social causes, we automatically think of donating money. This actually isn’t the case. We can donate our time, goods and professional skillsets as well. At SVG, we try to engage donors of all types to be educated donors. With the change in seasons and preparation for colder weather, we have been paying particular attention to the many international clothing companies who are not just making a push to support social initiatives but helping participants to be more aware and educated regarding the issues at hand.
One campaign that we have seen here in China and that has been going on globally is H&M’s global clothing recycling initiative. You can find their vision and a clear description of what happens to the donated clothes here. They also launched their ‘Conscious’ collection, which uses recycled materials and/or sustainable materials to make this line of clothing.
With a longstanding commitment to social concerns, Kenneth Cole launched a new initiative this fall called ‘Look Good, For Good.’ The Kenneth Cole Foundation will support three different charitable organizations under their three company pillars: collective health, civil liberties, and artistic activism. As part of this campaign of look books, outdoor and indoor billboards, and social media campaign, three photojournalists were enlisted to document the work of the charity partners receiving funds from this initiative. This and a new partnership with TakePart.com are all part of a strategic change to not just increase awareness of social concerns but encourage people to take action.
