When you’re not news anymore and the volunteers go home, how do you keep picking up the pieces? Where do the resources come from to rebuild your life, provide for your family, and do more than just survive? For victims of the Sichuan earthquake, these are questions they ask themselves each day.
You have heard the statistics—thousands killed in an instant and families, communities, and livelihoods disfigured. There is no easy fix and after months in which volunteers, funding, and disaster relief flooded the region, help has slowed to a trickle yet there is still much to be done.
A number of organizations have
continued to work in the earthquake region, but they are ever in
need of financial support to meet the physical and emotional
needs of the Sichuan people. Over the past several months, SVG
has researched the needs of the people in this region by visiting
the area, conducting assessments, and partnering with
organizations that continue to work towards the restoration of
Sichuan. Since the earthquake, SVG has sought to keep up-to-date
on the progress being made in Sichuan so that we can continue to
support the area.
To make the process of giving to Sichuan easier, the SVG team has created a portfolio of organizations working in the region. Of the organizations we chose, some are focused on rebuilding, some on education, some on psychological help, and others on economic development.
We invite you to review it and consider how you might assist in the rebuilding of Sichuan. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to contribute to the portfolio or find out more.
